  • Between 1897 and 30-JAN-1937, Harry worked Owner of HA Lackey Building and Construction. Came from Perry county to Carlisle in 1886 and apprenticed himself as a carpenter to Samuel Wetzel for a time, then to Joseph Shatto before he began contracting himself for small jobs. Eventually, he formed his own company. Some of the buildings bearing credit to HA Lackey Construction are: Thickett Hall for Dickinson School of Law, Dickinson Alumni Gymnasium, Stevens Grade School, Kroenberg Building, Carlisle Hospital (alterations and additions), Montgomery Ward Store, Havestick Building, and the Berg Building. Death certificate states he was in business as a building contractor for 40 years. Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA, USA.15,2

Research Notes:

  • RESEARCH NOTE: There appears to be confusion about Harry's birth and death dates. His headstone indicates dates different from those on his death certificate, in newspaper accounts, and, most of all, in historical family documents. Since the death certificate is an official document, the dates should be birth date of 30-NOV-1868, and the death date of 4-FEB-1937.4,6,1,7

That was in the Bergan Oilfields on 27 FEB 1991 and the Scout Platoon being the first Marines to enter Kuwait City. We arrived shortly after the Special Forces secured the embassy.
