Over the years, Alsace AKA Elsass constantly changed borders and governmental control most recently following World War II. The historic area covers current day southwest Germany, northeast France, or northern Switzerland. Church and other official records are generally unavailable attributable to their destruction over the years due to wars and governmental edicts.
